N1  - Jimena ama la vida con sus padres en El Salvador. Venden fruta en el mercado, al igual que su abuela y su bisabuela. "Las frutas son una bendición como tú, Jimena", le dice su madre. Pero un día un grupo de chicos amenazan a su amiga Rosenda en la escuela. Sus padres temerosos de que las pandillas intenten reclutarla también, deciden que debe irse a los Estados Unidos con su madre. Jimena está emocionada y temerosa, y no quiere dejar a su padre, a sus amigos y al perro Sultán. En autobús, en tren y a pie, madre e hija se dirigen hacia el norte, hasta que una noche, luces brillantes llenan el cielo y hombres con uniformes verdes separan a Jimena de su madre; Jimena loves life with her parents in El Salvador. She sells fruit in the market, just like her grandmother and her great-grandmother. "Fruits are a blessing like you, Jimena," her mother tells her. But one day a group of boys threaten her friend Rosenda at school. Fearful that the gangs will try to recruit her too, her parents decide that she should go to the United States with her mother. Jimena is excited and afraid, and she doesn't want to leave her father, her friends and the dog Sultán. By bus, by train and on foot, mother and daughter head north, until one night, bright lights fill the sky and men in green uniforms separate Jimena from her mother
