Todo lo que había aprendido Lorca en su teatro de títeres, en farsas y en el teatro, así como la experiencia poética y vital, confluyeron en la escritura de esta tragedia rural -síntesis entre realidad documental y teatro griego, entre apuntes del natural y alegoría- que tuvo su origen en la noticia de un suceso que ocupó a la prensa andaluza y madrileña, pero que Lorca elevó a las cumbres del teatro mundial. Everything that Lorca had learned in his puppet theater, in farces and in the theater, as well as his poetic and vital experience, came together in the writing of this rural tragedy -a synthesis between documentary reality and Greek theater, between notes from nature and allegory. - which had its origin in the news of an event that occupied the Andalusian and Madrid press, but which Lorca elevated to the summits of the world theater.
