It tells the story of a young widow who lives in a city in northern Italy with her father. In the middle of the Napoleonic wars, the city is taken over by the Russian army, the marquise is about to be raped by some soldiers but she is rescued by a colonel of the invading army. Months later, the Marchioness discovers that she is pregnant, although she has never known a man, and she searches for the father of the child. The work was the winner of the Idartes 2017 translation grant.
